Andrew Stephan Samosiuk was born on December 15, 1932. He passed away peacefully at his home on
September 2, 2018. He is survived by the love of his life, his wife Jeanne whom he was married to for 61
years. He was the devoted father of Susan, Steven, Nina and the late Andrew Paul. He was a loving
grandfather to ten grandchildren who will dearly miss him.
He was born In Detroit to two Russian parents that spoke little English. He went on to graduate with
honors from Chadsey High School in Detroit, earning four letters in football, basketball, baseball and
track his senior year. He received an academic scholarship to University of Michigan and joined the ROTC
program. During the summers in college, he would travel out west to work at logging camps. On the
weekends he would climb mountains including Mount Rainier and Mount Hood. After graduating from
college, he joined the Air Force. He earned many medals for his service.
He was an unselfish man who devoted his life to his wife, children and grandchildren. He was a man who
could build and fix anything. He never threw away anything he thought he could use and had a huge
shed full of many treasures that might come in handy one day. He taught his children and grandchildren
how to identify any constellation, plant and rock. He will be remembered for his kind nature where he
always put others first and loved to teach others about the natural universe surrounding us.
He will be cremated and a future celebration of life will be planned.
