Brian James Gallentine

March 8, 1973 — July 30, 2025

With heavy hearts and enduring love, we announce the passing of Brian James Gallentine, who left us on July 30, 2025, at the age of 52. He was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth Gallentine, who has certainly welcomed him with open arms.

Born on March 8, 1973, in Jackson, Michigan, Brian was the cherished son of Barry and Elizabeth Gallentine and the youngest brother of Barry. He was a devoted husband of 28 years to Paula, a proud and loving father to Brendan (25) and Paige (23), and a deeply treasured son-in-law, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin and friend to many. Brian radiated warmth, strength, and humility- qualities that left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

Brian shared an unbreakable bond with his best friend Keith Aldridge, who above all was more like a brother. He was Brian’s first call in moments of joy and his first call in times of need. Their friendship spanned decades- marked by unwavering support, endless laughter, and countless memories. As life progressed, their close-knit circle grew even tighter as their wives became best friends too, lovingly and forever known together as the “Party of 4”.

From a young age, Brian showed the drive and heart that would define his life. A gifted athlete, Brian holds a 30-year (and counting) school record in the 110-meter hurdles at Jackson Parma Western High School and was a two-time Little Caesar’s Midget Major Hockey National Champion. He went on to play Division 1 hockey at Western Michigan University (1991-1995) on a full scholarship, serving as team captain his senior year. After earning his degree in logistics, he played professionally for the Roanoke Express during the 1995-96 ECHL season and was the only member of that team invited to an NHL training camp (Detroit Red Wings). Unfortunately, just eight games into the season, a career-ending eye injury cut his promising pro career.

Brian returned to WMU as a graduate assistant coach from 1996-1998 while earning his master’s degree in Engineering Management.  He later coached the Springfield Junior Blues in Illinois, first as an assistant and then as head coach.

While his athletic accomplishments were many, it was Brian’s character-quietly confident, steadfast, and selfless-that earned him lifelong respect and friendship.  His approach to both sports and life reflected these same values.

After stepping away from coaching, Brian built a fulfilling career in logistics. Later, he founded Bester Candle Company in honor of his mother, who passed from lupus at the age of 64. The business served as a tribute to her legacy, a way to support the Michigan Lupus Foundation, and a means of teaching his children meaningful life lessons.

Above all, Brian was a devoted husband and father.  He treasured time with Paula, took extreme pride in Brendan’s GIS career and rekindled love of fishing, and beamed watching Paige thrive as a Division 1 volleyball athlete while pursuing her master’s degree.  To say he was proud of his family is an understatement.

Brian’s generosity ran deep-whether as a steady shoulder, a helping hand, or a quiet force of compassion. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched.  He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

A celebration of Brian’s life will be held on August 9 at 2:00 p.m. at Indianwood Gold and Country Club, 1081 Indianwood Road, Lake Orion, MI 48361.  All are welcome to join in honoring a truly remarkable man.  In tribute to Brian’s vibrant spirit, guests are kindly asked not to wear black.
