PENNINGTON, CALVIN C. of Lake Orion, age 83, died at Lake Orion Nursing Center on April 2, 2008. He was born February 8, 1925, in the town of Seth, West Virginia to the late Avery and Mattie Stone. He resided in Lake Orion for most of his life. He served as a B-29 Tailgunner, ranked as sergeant, in the Army Air Force during W.W. II ---1943-1945. He earned 4 bronze metals, flew 65 combat missions and 10 food missions. He was affectionately called "Penny" by his crew members. He was the last surviving member of the crew.He retired from GMC Truck Division in 1981 after 31 ½ years of service. (supervision in production and skilled trades), and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lake Orion.Beloved husband of Dorothy Pauline (Barker) Pennington for 34 years; loving father of Charlene (Pat) Boone, Rodney (JoAnn) Pennington, Paulette (Wayne) Alsworth, Colleen (Lee) Encinias, Marv (Kathy) Bryant, Patty (Mark) Walsh. Grandfather of nine; great-grandfather of six.He is further survived by 9 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother Harry and one sister Marjorie. Funeral Services Monday, 11:00 A.M. from the First Baptist Church of Lake Orion.Interment, Oxford Cemetery. Friends may call at the Lake Orion Chapel of the Sparks-Griffin Funeral Home (248) 693-8336) on Sunday, from 1-5 P.M.
