Carlton "Pete" Corley

Carlton “Pete” Corley; of Oakland Township, Michigan; formerly of Mississippi; passed away on February 6, 2024.  Carlton is the dear husband of Peggy Corley; beloved father of Cathy (Philip) Rogers, Carla (Nicki) Corley and the late Jonathan Corley; dear grandfather of Matthew Rogers, Courtney Rogers, Carson Corley, Harrison Corley and Greyson Corley; and great-grandfather of Millie Corley and Bennett Corley; and uncle to numerous nieces and nephews.

Carlton was born one of 9 children, in Collins, Mississippi, to James and Kate (Baggett) Corley.  In March of 1958 he enlisted and served 2 years in the U.S. Army as a Morse Intercept Operator.  Shortly after serving, he began working at his brother’s gas station and quickly noticed a young woman who would occasionally walk over from her office across the street to grab her office some Cokes.  This quickly led to one date, and as they say, “the rest is history.”  Carlton and Peggy began their 61 plus years journey together in June of 1962.  Throughout his career in Sales, he accumulated many awards for his exceptional service, honesty, and integrity in building strong relationships with customers.  His curiosity to “see what was on the other side of the hill” led to many travels, having nearly visited all 50 states and several cities in Canada and Europe.  Many times, he just didn’t even have to even leave town, as a small walk in the woods would turn into an adventure that he’d share with you the next time you saw him.

Quiet and unassuming, Carlton had a remarkable ability to observe the world around him with keen insight and empathy.  He had an uncanny knack for making others feel seen and valued, often through small gestures and thoughtful words.  His kindness touched many lives and we’ve often been told he’s one of the “good guys.”

His spirit will live on in our memories.  We take comfort in knowing that he is at peace now, watching over us from above as he always did during his time here on Earth.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, February 16, 2024, at 3pm at Sparks-Griffin Funeral Home in Lake Orion with visitation from 2pm until the time of service.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to the Hospice of Michigan or a charity of your choice.
