Casimiro "Frank" Rivas

Casimiro "Frank" Contreras Rivas; of Pontiac, Michigan; passed away on January 26, 2023, at the age of 85 from an unexpected illness. Born on March 4, 1937, to his late parents Ascencion and Simona Rivas in Chihuahua, Mexico.

He came to the U.S. to make a better life for himself. Frank worked for the Canadian National Railway Company for 30 years. He traveled all over working on the railroads fixing tracks. He was very proud of the safety award he received for 23 years with no accidents during his time at the railroad. He also loved gardening and canning his coveted jars of chilies and salsa. Breakfast was his favorite meal of the day, he frequented a handful of restaurants in the Pontiac area where they knew him by name and what he liked to eat.

Rivas was preceded in death by his wife Esther Petra (Maya) Rivas, a daughter Maria Del Carman Rivas, and a son Mario Maya Sr. He leaves behind a sister Avelina Garza, two daughters Hipolita (Paula) Anzures, Maria Manuela Rivas, a daughter-in-law Frances Maya, one son Margarito Maya Jr., many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Friday, February 3, 2023, from 4:00 pm-8:00 pm with rosary prayers to begin at 7:00 pm at Sparks-Griffin Funeral Home, Pontiac Chapel.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2023, at 11:00 am at Sparks-Griffin Funeral Home then proceed to Mt. Hope Catholic Cemetery where he will be laid to rest next to his wife.
