Charlie Vean Smith Robertson

Charlie Vean Smith Robertson; passed away peacefully at her home in Oakland Township on October 26, 2017. She was born on September 16, 1927 in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee. Charlie died of medical complications following a heart attack. She was in hospice care with her four daughters in round the clock attendance. Charlie is preceded in death by her husband, Walter C. Robertson Jr. (1925-1985); her parents, DeWitt and Ethel McCluggage Smith; nine of her ten siblings, Claude, Elizabeth, Nell, DT, Ralph, Jim, Gean, Ethel and Bethel; and her grandson, Kenneth Simkowski Jr. She is survived by her sister, Jane Smith O’Brien Harris of Brighton. She leaves behind her daughters, Deb Robertson Simkowski (Kenneth) of Erie, PA and West Bloomfield, Daryl Robertson DeBano (Dennis); Carol Robertson Hrbal and Janet Robertson Warner, all of Oakland Township. Charlie dearly loved her surviving grandchildren, Caitlyn Hrbal McPhail (Matthew) of Royal Oak, Alexander DeBano (Lauren) of Denver, CO, Collyn DeBano of Detroit, Marisa Hrbal of Troy, Max Hrbal of Erie, PA, and Tyler Warner and Sean Warner of Louisville, KY. She was so happy to have welcomed great granddaughters, Amelia Charlotte McPhail (16 months) and newborn, Nora Opal McPhail in to the family. Charlies parents produced a large family resulting in a close-knit tribe of nieces, nephews and greats throughout the Detroit area, United States and abroad. In addition to her role as wife and mother, Charlie enjoyed her many passions: genealogy, photography and the art of antique collecting, buying, selling and trading. She attended business school in Detroit and was a lifelong learner. Her love of books and literature was a gift she passed to her children and grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, October 30, 2017 at 11am at Sparks-Griffin Funeral Home, Lake Orion. The family will receive friends for visitation on Sunday, October 29, 2017 from 2-6pm and Monday, October 30, 2017 from 10-11am. Memorial donations may be made to the Family or the American Cancer Society.
