Daniel Roy Mack - A Simple Man of Simple Pleasures…
Daniel Roy (Danny) Mack was born in Detroit Michigan on April 12, 1952 to parents Uler Steve Mack of Newport, Tennessee, and Dorothy Culpepper Mack of Warrenton, Georgia. Danny was the second boy of five to be born of a total of nine children to the Mack parents. Danny was a handsome and precocious child, and grew up in the middle of the Mack sibling line.
As a teenager, Danny attended Southeastern High School of South East Detroit, Michigan. He was both a science fiction aficionado, and a huge jazz buff in his later teen years and early adult life. Danny collected a master full of jazz recording, perfecting the sound of the artist jazz artist with reel-to-reel tape players and state-of-the-art audio component system. While everyone was into funk and R&B, Danny was doing Grady Tate and Freddie Hubbard! This was in the true tradition of the Detroit Montreau Jazz Festival and culture, along side that of Motown and popular R&B music through the “Motown Sound”.
As a young adult, Danny worked at both Howard Johnson”s and Chrysler Mack Stamping Plant for a few years. While not pursuing higher education conventionally, Danny was enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, and completed an 18 1/2 year tour of service with honorable discharge. Danny toured in Seoul, Korea for multiple years and in West Germany, and England briefly during his Air Force career as a Safety Specialist. After retirement from the Air Force, Danny lived quietly close to home and Mom in Detroit, having his most recent Air Force service at Selfridge Air Force Base in Mid-Northern Michigan.
Danny lived in-house with his Mom for the next 30 years or so. He lived in Detroit with Mom and sister Lois for a while then after the death of our brother Frederick Allen Mack, Danny moved South with Dorothy, his Mom to settle in Stone Mountain “Georgia” - the home of her youth. After a few moves around the DeKalb Georgia area, Danny and Mom ended up in Decatur shortly after the death of our sister Phyllis Antoinette Jones. Then a move North brought Danny and Mom back to Detroit in relationship with Lois and Carolyn Boikai Detroit and Auburn Hills, Michigan, respectively.
After 2019 Danny and Mom separated residences; Mom moving to Auburn Hills with daughter, Carollyn Yvette, and Danny, moving to the Jefferson Towers, Senior Residence on the Riverfront. Danny lived quietly there until his death in March 2025.
He leaves to mourn three siblings, Carollyn Yvette, Nathan Wesley, Sharon Annette and Cousin Roderick Garr. And, many nieces and nephews, grands and Greats (nieces and nephews) - Maurice Anthony, LaToya Chavonne(Donald),Cameron Drew, Jasmine Desirre, Eli Carter; Misha Senay (Frank) and Joshua Uler; Phillip Anthony (Rasheen) and Peyton Ania; Vernisha Yvonna, D’Marcus Allen, Chance Pierre and Aniyah Starr; Ramone Dion, Asia Marie (Richard) and Brooklyn Marie… We all love him greatly and miss him dearly.
