Dean Olson; August 6, 1959 – March 1, 2021; Dean is survived by his loving wife Dottie Olson of 20 years, brother Randy (Tami) Olson; step children Brittney Lackey & Phil Sprague; grandchildren Caleb, Carson, Aubrey, Elijah, Blake & Enrique; mother in law Jean (late Denver) Jones; sister in law Micki (Larry) Demean; brother in law Dean (Kim) Jones; sister in law Lisa (Terry) Steigerwald; sister in law Sheryl (Joe) Demattia; nephews Brandon (Ashley) Olson, Jacob (Brittany) Olson; and niece Sadie Olson and many more nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sons, Bobby, Eugene & Clayton Olson; father Eugene "Bob" Olson; and mother Gloria Swan. Dean worked at the loading docks at Fleet Carrier for about 13 years where he loaded semi-trucks to be shipped across the United States. He completed automotive mechanic courses at MoTeC and became certified by the State of Michigan as an automotive mechanic in three fields. Dean proceeded to work at a dealership as a mechanic for a period of time. He also worked at the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department for 24 years. He was a highly respected supervisor in the jail; co-workers and inmates alike looked up to him. He was described as an honest and sincere individual by his peers. Dean was one of the leaders involved in the scared straight program, giving tours which helped redirect the path of many youth through the years. There have been many times in Dean’s life where he took on the role as a big brother or mentor to people in need of guidance. Dean was a very benevolent person. He always made sure that he had coats, shoes and items in his truck to give to those in need. He made it a point to stop and help people that were broke down, stranded or needed a ride. In Dean’s youth, he was a proficient and polished boxer, and a highly competitive wrestler. He enjoyed shooting and was quite the marksman. Through the years he very much enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a highly skilled bass fisherman. One of Dean’s hobbies was developing and polishing his survival skills. Sharing his knowledge about survival skills with others was something he was very passionate about. He liked to put together kits known as bug-out bags, used for emergency survival, which he gifted to friends and family. Dean was known for his sense of humor and loved to tell jokes. He loved to spend time with his grandkids. It was also known to many that when he introduced his wife Dottie he referred to her as “the love of my life and best friend.” A Memorial Service will be held at 7pm on Friday, March 12, 2021 at the Apostolic Church of Auburn Hills with visitation from 5-6:45pm.
