Esther Mitchell; (nee Duran); age 83; lifelong resident of Pontiac; born October 8, 1926; left our world to go and be with the Lord on May 1, 2010. Esther leaves behind a very large and loving family; preceded in death by her loving parents Porfirio and Petra Duran; beloved wife of Robert for 56 years; loving sister to Joseph Duran (Jeanne), Mary Gutierrez and also preceded in death by brother Carlos Duran, and sister Beatrice Flores (Frank); loving mother to seven children, Sandra Grayden (Gary), Samuel, Arthur (Nilda), Susanna Wood, Patricia Morrison, Steven (Patricia), and Martin (Nickki); cherished grandmother to eleven grandchildren, Carmella (John), Monica, Steven, Terry, Jennifer (Jeff), Jeffrey, Michael, Robert, Christopher, Tara, Thomas; and five great grandchildren, Briana, Marcus, Julian, Mariah, and Niko. Esther had previously worked in housekeeping at Pontiac Osteopathic Hospital. Esther was active in volunteering at American House in Pontiac, where she and Robert have lived since 1990. Her work included welcoming new residents, working at the store within American House, and ensuring her neighbors were well with early morning door checks each day. Esther was also a lifelong parishioner of St. Michael's Catholic Community, where she attended mass each week. The Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, May 6, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Damien of Molokai Parish, St. Michael's Catholic Church. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Pontiac Chapel of Sparks-Griffin Funeral Home, with Rosary prayers at 7:00 p.m. Interment Mount Hope Catholic Cemetery.
