Florence "Ruth" Sims

Florence "Ruth" Sims; (nee Jackman); 89; most recently of Jamieson Nursing Home in Harrisville, Michigan; but previously of Lake Orion, Michigan; died at the nursing home on December 27, 2014. Ruth was born July 13, 1925 in Highland Park, Michigan to Vary and Harry Jackman. She graduated from high school in Rochester, Michigan and served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Ruth was married to Mr. Charles W. Sims, Sr. who preceded her in death in 1995. Ruth is survived by her six children, Kenneth Sims of Florida, Vary Sims Fischer (Rev. Robert) of Windham, Maine, Keary C. Sims (Jan) of Harrisville, Michigan; Charles W. Sims, Jr. (Sherry) of Lake Orion, Michigan, June Sims Moyet (Tony) of Harrisville, Michigan, Steven Sims (Melanie) of Lake Orion, Michigan; her 15 grandchildren, Jesse Moyet (Sherri), Kevin Sims (Wendy), Karen Fischer, Terri Lynn Sims Parker (Randall), Kristina Pacovsky, Julie Fischer Avenant (Willem), Keary C. Sims, Jr., Charles W. Sims, III, Andrea Sims, Amanda Calhoun, Jillian Moyet, Nicole Sims, Vincent Moyet, Nathan Moyet, Haley Sims; eleven great grandchildren; and her brothers, Charles Jackman of Berkley, Michigan, Jack Jackman of Louisville, Kentucky. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Charles W. Sims, Sr.; grandchild, Kenneth C. Sims, Jr.; sister, June Diener; and parents, Vary and Harry Jackman. Ruth served her community in many capacities throughout her lifetime, most notably as room mother for all of her children, the Fish Organization, the Lake Orion Food Pantry, election poll worker and a Red Cross Volunteer. She was an accomplished needleworker, an excellent cook, enjoyed family camping and her bowling league, and especially the company of her many Chihuahua companions over the years. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, January 2, 2015 at 1pm at SPARKS-GRIFFIN FUNERAL HOME, Lake Orion. The family will receive friends from 11am until time of service. www.sparksgriffin.com
