Freddie Odums, better known as Jimmy to family and close friends and affectionately known as "Big Daddy" by some was born July 20, 1943 in Savannah, Georgia to Bruce Odums and Retha Mae (Odums, Tolbert, Jones). He and his mother later moved to Detroit where he attended school and completed 2 years of college. He worked in construction for Burton-Malow and later as a millwright for General Motors until his retirement. He departed this life March 27, 2017.
He had a deep love for family, especially his children and grandchildren. He was a loyal and loving friend.
Jimmy always loved music and dancing and he and his friends used to host regular cabarets. He had an extensive wardrobe of leather pants with shoes to match and for a period of time, resembled Barry White to the extent that he won a few look-alike contests.
He was preceded in death by brother George Tolbert, father Homer Bruce Odums, mother Retha Mae Jones and step-fathers Willie Tolbert and Arthur William Jones Sr. He leaves to cherish his memory sons Freddie Odums Jr., Lamont (Stacia) Odums, Mikal (Lica) Odums and daughter Dominique Clark. He also leaves brothers Jesse Tolbert, Thomas Jones, Arthur Jones Jr., Stanley Jones, Sterling Jones, Eric Jones, Alan Jones, Jairus Odums and sisters Juanita (Daniel) Harper, Diane Jones, Regenia Odums, Starry Ardys, Vena Flick, Cerise Lody, and Kicia Odums, 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be held 11:00 am - 1:00 pm, Tuesday April 4, 2017 at Sparks-Griffin Funeral Home, 46 Williams St., Pontiac, MI 48341.
