Gary Lee Merwin

Merwin, Gary Lee; of Lake Orion; age 74; born June 7, 1940 passed away peacefully on August 1, 2014. Gary is the loving husband of Mary Kay (Strzelecki) of 43 years; loving father of Michele Houser -Dunbar; grandfather of Kyle Houser, Lindsey Houser, and Tyler Dunbar; dear brother of Gloria (Bob) Bakewell, and the late Daniel (Dreama) Merwin; brother-in-law of Patricia (Dale) Patenaude, Angie (Tom) Schmidt, Steve (the late Jean) Strzelecki, Tom (Carol) Strzelecki, and Joe (Ethel) Strzelecki. He will also be missed by 27 nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. Gary retired from General Motors (GM Tech Center, Pontiac Motor, and Fiero Plant) after 30 years of service .He proudly served in the U.S. Navy and was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #233 where he served the offices of Commander, Finance Officer, and Chaplain. He also coordinated Memorial Day activities for the Legion flags for graves of the military at Lake Orion, cemeteries. He had many golf and Legion friends and especially loved like brothers, Paul Cole, John Trogden, Tom King, Mike Shagena, Doug Cole, Chris Mennel, and Mike Okolovitch. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at 11 a.m. at SPARKS-GRIFFIN FUNERAL HOME, Lake Orion. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, from 4 to 8 p.m. Interment with military honors will be held at Eastlawn Cemetery. Contributions may be made to Seasons Hospice Palliative Care or American Legion Post #233 , Lake Orion.
