George Ralph Blackman

George Ralph Blackman of Lake Orion, died April 2, 2009. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Kathryn Blackman of Texas. He is survived by his son, Kevin (Donna) Blackman of Gilbert, Arizona, daughter Kathryn (Gary) Mundie of Oxford, Michigan, his brother, William Blackman of Greeley, Colorado, and ex-wife and close friend Evelyn Blackman of Las Cruces, New Mexico. He was a devoted grandfather to Kyle and Mitchell Mundie, Kalina Blackman, and Ashley Cheatham. Mr. Blackman was born on April 3, 1934 in Midland, Texas. After high school graduation in Groves, Texas, he enlisted in the Navy and was a proud veteran of the Korean War. He returned to Texas and graduated with a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Geology from Lamar Tech University. His career included working for the Aeronautical Chart and Information Center in St. Louis, Missouri, NASA's Apollo programs in Houston, Texas, and for the Defense Department at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico. He spent most of his retirement years in Las Vegas, Nevada before moving to Lake Orion the last three years to become more involved in his grandchildren's lives. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 7, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Lake Orion Chapel of Sparks-Griffin Funeral Home with Rev. Marge Munger officiating. The family will receive friends on Monday with suggested visiting hours of 4 to 7 p.m. Reflections may be shared by visiting www.sparksgriffin.com.
