George Raymond "Ray" Welch; of Lake Orion; February 3, 2012; age 94; beloved husband of the late Ellen Rita; dear Father of Raymond J. (Phyllis) Welch, Mary Ellen Forester, Catherine (Larry) Szymanski, Rita (Charles) McCarthy, Margaret (Jack) Phillips, James T. Welch, Mary Elizabeth (Richard) Oras; loving Grandfather of six and Great Grandfather of five. Our father is also survived by his brother John F. Welch (Alice). Ray was a member for over 50 years of the Lake Orion Lions Club, and Past Commander of Lake Orion American Legion. Dad was a speech instructor for the Gabriel Richard Institute for many years. His talent for wood work extended to many pieces of furniture made for his children. He was a ferocious reader and an expert at crossword puzzles. Visitation will be held at SPARKS-GRIFFIN FUNERAL HOME, 111 E. Flint Street, Lake Orion, on Saturday February 4th from 2- 6 p.m. with Rosary at 5:00 p.m. Funeral services on February 6th, Monday morning 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lake Orion. Interment Eastlawn Cemetery. Donations can be made to the Leader Dogs for the Blind. Reflections may be shared by visiting www.sparksgriffin.com.
