Gregory Martin Merle, a dedicated Son, Brother, Father and Friend, passed away on Saturday, November 26, 2022, at the age of 55.
Born on December 26, 1966, in Pontiac, Mi, he was the youngest child of José Alfredo Merle and Julia Muñiz.
Greg grew up on the east side of Pontiac and, at an early age, discovered he had a talent for dance. During middle and high school, he and three of his neighborhood friends started the breakdancing group, Kraftwork. Popular in the city, they often performed during summer festivals atop the Phoenix center.
After graduating from Pontiac Northern, he pursued a dual major in Psychology & Spanish at Central Michigan University. While there, he pledged and became a member of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity.
After college, Greg performed a brief service with the Marine Corps; however, his charisma with people was unmistakable, which led to pursuing employment where client service was at the core.
Anyone who knew Greg knew of his two greatest passions, Music and Politics. Many of his friends and closest relationships were sparked by either a love of Prince, Salsa, or spirited online political debates. His passion for political transparency was strong enough that he tried his hand at Congressional and the House of Representatives runs himself.
Water provided Greg with great solace. His affection started early with swimming competitively, but later in life, spending time with friends and family lakeside was one of his greatest pleasures.
Greg had many proud moments in life; one of his most recent was his contribution to the exoneration of George & Melvin DeJesus. However, his most significant accomplishment was the birth of his daughter, Gia.
Greg is preceded in death by his Father & Mother. He is survived and will be missed by his Sister, Damaris, and Brother, José Alfredo Jr.; daughter, Gia; his Niece and Brother-in-Law, Dominique and Dillard; and many extended family and friends.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2023, at Sparks Griffin Funeral Home, 46 Williams Street , Pontiac, Michigan 48341, from 11:00 am – 12:30 pm ET.
