King, Helen M.; passed away peacefully on April 3, 2013, at the age of 96. She was preceded in death by her husband, Otto. She is survived by her loving daughter, Barbara (Barry) Michels, of Oxford, and son, Paul, of Clarkston. She was an inspiration and adoring grandma to her 6 grandchildren, Monique (Steve) Schienke, Chris (Kerri) Michels, Gretchen (Phil) DeJarnett, Paul (Sarafina) King, Gina King, and Kyle King (Jenny Bassett-Payne). She was so proud of her 5 great-grandchildren, Aveline & Klaire Schienke, Grayson & Liam Michels, and Genevieve DeJarnett. She will be greatly missed by her sisters-in-law, Evelyn Turnbull, Arlene Turnbull, and Eunice Turnbull, as well as many nieces and nephews. Helen was the daughter of Robert and Myrtle (Clothier) Turnbull of North Collins, NY and born on July 28, 1916. She was the eldest of five children, Robert (Evelyn) Turnbull, Howard (Arlene) Turnbull, Dorothy Chism, and Donald (Eunice) Turnbull. Mrs. King was a registered nurse and started her career as a member of the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946. She was a 2nd lieutenant with the 34th Station Hospital in World War II. She served in North Africa and Sicily. In June of 1945 she became part of the 262nd Hospital in the Pacific Theater, primarily in the Philippines. Upon return from the war, she relocated to Michigan and eventually became nursing supervisor of the nursery at Pontiac General Hospital until her retirement in 1978. Helen loved books, crossword puzzles, traveling, and was active as a deacon at Joslyn Avenue United Presbyterian Church for many years. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday April 9, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at SPARKS-GRIFFIN FUNERAL HOME, Lake Orion. The family will receive friends on Monday from 4-9 p.m. Interment Christian Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given to the Easter Seals or any charity of your choice.
