Hickman Franklin Hickman, Jr.

David F. Hickman, 68, of Goodrich, Michigan, passed away peacefully but unexpectedly on Sunday, May 24, 2026.

Born November 27, 1957, in Cherry Point, North Carolina, David was the son of the late David F. Hickman, Sr., and Beverly Sue Cleavenger. He attended Lake Orion Schools and proudly served four years in the United States Marine Corps in San Diego, California.

While stationed there he married Jan Jenkins, who came from Michigan to join him and became the love of his life; they were married nearly 50 years and together raised a family after returning to Michigan. After his military service, David began a career in the plumbing and valve industry. He co‑founded Legend Valve & Fitting in 1988, which was profitable in its first year. Through sheer grit, determination, and commitment to excellence he built the company along with his business partner, Walter Jann, into an industry leader over 37 years and served as its CEO—earning numerous awards and respect as a knowledgeable and inspiring leader.

David was known for his infectious smile and laugh, a calm demeanor under pressure, natural leadership and a keen sense to recognize emerging competitive opportunities. He loved his dogs, music, boating, spending time with family, traveling, cooking—especially cookouts and crafting his famous ribs & baked beans—supported many philanthropic causes, and was a dedicated University of Michigan football fan.

He is survived by his wife, Jan; children Trinity Hood (Jim) and Adam Hickman; grandchildren Hannah and Hunter; his mother, Beverly Sue Strong; sister Tammy Casanova; brother Rick Hickman (Vicki); and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, David F. Hickman, Sr.

A funeral service will be held at the Church of the Holy Family located at 11804 S. Saginaw Street, Grand Blanc, Michigan 48439, on Friday, June 12, 2026 at 10:30 am. The family will receive friends and family at 9:30 am until time of service.
