Jeanne L Grayson, 1936 - 2024
Jeanne, a beloved wife and mother, passed away peacefully at the age of 88 on April 22, 2024, in Pontiac, Michigan. Born and raised in Macon, Georgia, she was raised with her sister in a thriving community.
While at Fisk University, she met her soulmate, Joe Grayson, and while he pursued his medical education at Meharry Medical School, she taught tap dancing to help him finish his final year. During their time in Michigan, Jeanne played an integral role in supporting her husband’s medical practice. Her dedication to her community was evident in her involvement in charitable endeavors, notably her contribution to the annual Pontiac Hospital fundraiser through her exquisite needlepoint creations.
Jeanne was not only a devoted mother to her own children but also a guiding presence for many others. She recognized the importance of representation and ensured her loved ones were surrounded by a supportive network that celebrated their identity and heritage.
A woman of profound wisdom and intuition, she was renowned for her sage advice and innate ability to discern what was right. Her generous spirit knew no bounds, and she exemplified the values of compassion, justice, and integrity in all aspects of her life.
She found joy in the simple pleasures of life—dancing, laughter, and spending cherished moments with her husband and loved ones. The annual Super Bowl parties and family trips to Cancun created enduring memories that will be cherished by all who were fortunate enough to share in them.
Though her beliefs about religion may have remained private, her actions spoke volumes about her faith in humanity and her commitment to living a life of love and service. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, resilience, and unwavering love that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
In honoring Jeanne’s memory, let us carry forward her legacy of compassion and goodwill, spreading light in the world just as she did every day of her remarkable life.
