John "Jack" Courtney

John A. Courtney; of Commerce; age 80; passed away on July 8, 2024.  Jack is the beloved husband of Donnie of 54 years; loving father of Ami (James) Hadden and Joseph (Heather) Courtney; and loving papa of Dakota, Griffin, John and Luke.  He was preceded in death by his sisters, JoAnne Kirby and Kathleen Wattier, and his nephew Robert Kirby.  Jack retired from Ameritech after more than 30 years.  As a father, he enjoyed coaching his kids softball and baseball games, and as proud papa, he never missed his grandkids many sports, even the practices.  Jack also enjoyed playing golf, was an avid softball player, and more than anything  he was family man.  To all that knew Jack, they will remember him living to the words of Johnny Cash “If a man is going to make it, he’s got to be tough.”  Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, July 19, 2024 at 11:00 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lake Orion.  The family will receive friends on Thursday from 3 to 8 pm at Sparks-Griffin Funeral Home in Lake Orion with Scripture Prayers to begin at 7 pm.  Interment will be held at Eastlawn Cemetery.
