John C. Napley

John C. Napley; of Bingham Farms; age 89; was called home on December 27, 2012; John is survived by his beloved wife Phyllis of 63 years. He was preceded in death by his daughter Lisa. He is also survived by his half-brother E. William Ratz and his half-sister Doris Collins. John was born in Cleveland, Ohio on August 19, 1923. He moved to Michigan in 1934 and graduated from Pontiac High School in 1941. He served in the Navy during WWII from 1943 - 1946. On July 2, 1949 John married Phyllis Cowe and after graduating from Central Michigan University in 1950, he and Phyllis owned and operated A&W Rootbeer Drive In's from 1950 to 1963. John would later work as an independent oil operator from 1963 to 1967; eventually becoming Senior Vice President of Patrick Petroleum Company until 1984. John served as President of Napley Enterprises from 1984 - 1995, was Chairman and Director of the Pontiac Exchange Club and volunteered at the Pontiac United Way. He was very active on the Board of the Salvation Army, was a longtime member of Orchard Lake Country Club, and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Clarkston. John was an extensive traveler as well as an avid hunter and fisherman. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 3, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at SPARKS-GRIFFIN FUNERAL HOME, 46 Williams Street, Pontiac. Rev. Doug Trebilcock officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.
