John Robert Whinham

John Robert Whinham; of Rochester Hills; age 63; passed away on February 17, 2022.  John is the beloved husband of Diane (Miner) Whinham, with whom he shared 30 years of marriage.  He is the loving father of Elizabeth Whinham (Raye McGee) and Jack Whinham; loving son of John W. Whinham and the late Marie (Blount) Whinham; dear brother of Carol (Mike) Robinson and Joy Whinham Tavernier (Kenroy Tavernier); brother in law of Cathy Miner, Laura Miner Kowalski (Dave) and Don (Laura) Miner; and dear uncle of Michal Ann Robinson, Jill Robinson, Rachel (Adam) Darany, Chris Kowalski, Andrew Kowalski, Caitlin Lehr and the late Daniel Lehr.

John began a 30 year career in 1988 at EDS as a Telecommunications Engineer, retiring in September of 2018 as the VP and GM of Commercial Accounts at DXC Technologies.  Through the years he enjoyed traveling the world during which time he successfully became a certified diving instructor.  John loved spending time at the lake house in North Carolina, where he was able to work on his various DIY home improvement projects.  John also loved to cook for his family, he enjoyed to watch auto racing, as well as watching the never ending mystery of The Curse of Oak Island.  John was a beloved husband, father and dear friend, and he will be dearly missed by all.

Funeral Mass will be held at St. Irenaeus Catholic Church, Rochester Hills at 11am on Thursday, February 24, 2022.  The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 4-8pm at Sparks-Griffin Funeral Home, Lake Orion.  In lieu of flowers in honor of John, memorial donations may be made to the Zero – End of Prostate Cancer Program.
