Joseph Pierce Iii

October 11, 1958 — February 28, 2015

Joseph Pierce, III, was born on October 11, 1958, in Cleveland, Ohio, to devoted parents, Joseph and Shirley Pierce. He was endearingly called "Cap" by his dad. In the late 60's, the family moved to Pontiac, Michigan where Joseph grew up and attended Pontiac schools. As a family, we worshipped at Messiah Missionary Baptist Church in Pontiac, Michigan. Joseph was a free-spirit who did things his own way. He was the only boy; spoiled rotten and idolized by his mother and sisters. He was very adventurous and kept his parents in the emergency room from tree climbing falls, to bicycle wrecks and fence jumping accidents. Once he wanted to know what made the old-fashioned wringer washer work. So he put his arm through it, and ended up in emergency. So why does his sister get in trouble for not telling on him. Sadly, Joseph lost his battle with lung cancer on February 28, 2015. He leaves to mourn his passing; his son, Dequandre Smith (Pontiac, Michigan), daughter, Cassaundra (Elliott) Pierce (Conyers, Georgia), grandchildren; Damonte Smith (Cypress, Texas), Daijona Smith (Pontiac, Michigan) Alexandria Batiste, Jazmine Kennedy and Brian Kennedy (Conyers, Georgia); four siblings, Joanne (Howard) Holmes (Cleveland, Ohio), Wisetta (Jere) Neill, Gail James and Brenda Walker (Pontiac, Michigan); a dear friend, Kim Hill, and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members and friends.
