It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Karen Hasler, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, mentor and friend. She departed this world April 19, 2025 at the age of 69 from a sudden terminal illness. Born in Battle Creek Michigan to Edward and Opal Bell, Karen attended Lakeview High School, Alma College, and received her Master’s degree at Madonna University. As a gifted and dedicated teacher of nearly 30 years at Harlan Elementary, she sought to make a difference in each child’s life.
She was the foundation of her family and selflessly shared her love through cooking, by hosting gatherings, and providing her wisdom. Karen was a member of First United Methodist Church in Birmingham and lived out her Christian values everyday. She put extra effort into making friends and family around her feel special. Also a member of Pine Lake Country Club she enjoyed the community and friendships formed during many years of summer swim meets and golf outings.
Karen is survived by husband Stephen Hasler, daughters Katie Hasler and Amy Jones (Jeff Jones), and grandchildren Carson Jones and Madison Jones. She met life’s hardest challenge with peace, courage, and grace. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 3, 2025 at the Birmingham First United Methodist Church, 1589 W. Maple Road. The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations in Karen's memory may be made to O.A.T.S, Offering Alternative Therapy with Smiles.
