Karen Johanns

The Rev. Ms. Karen Johanns; The Rev. Ms. Karen Johanns entered into eternal life on Monday, August 31, 2015 in Sylvan Lake, MI at age 56. She was born in Jersey City, NJ in 1959. As a young adult she worked in restaurant management. After graduating Summa Cum Laude from Mount Holyoke College in 2003, The Rev. Ms. Johanns earned a Master of Divinity Degree from the Church Divinity School of the Pacific in Berkeley, CA. She was ordained an Episcopal Priest in 2007 in Reno, NV. She served as Rector at All Saints' Episcopal Church in Pontiac, MI from 2008 until 2014, when treatment for ovarian cancer necessitated medical retirement. She is survived by her wife, Claire Dodds; sister Christine Johanns; nephew Matthew Johanns; step- siblings Donna Blaser, Tom DiNicola, and Barbara Covert; and step-mother Dorothy Johanns. Preceded in death by her mother Blanche Johanns and father Henry Johanns. The funeral celebrating The Rev. Ms. Johanns' life will be at All Saints' Episcopal Church, on Friday, September 4, 2015 at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 5-8 p.m. at SPARKS-GRIFFIN FUNERAL HOME, Pontiac.
