DE RYCKE, LAWRENCE "LARRY" of Oxford, January 3, 2008 age 87.Born October 9, 1920 in East Moline, Illinois.Son of Theophil (Philip) De Rycke and Mabel Victoria Penfold. Moved to Pontiac, Michigan and attended St. Michael's Elementary and St. Frederick's High School in Pontiac. Married Evelyn Roark in 1942, Married Gerri Moder in 2005. Predeceased by Evelyn (1995), his parents and sister Joan De Rycke Demet. Survived by four daughters, Judith De Rycke, Kathleen "Katee" (Pete) Francies, Linda (Ronald) Hudson and Pamela (John) Tracy. Also survived by 4 Grandchildren, Carli and Kevin Francies, Melissa and Mylinda Hudson, and a Great Grandson Gideon Hudson.Larry was an active member of St. Joseph's Lake Orion Catholic Church. He served as the First Parish Council President and was a current member of the Finance & Administration Board. He also served as a Lector and was proud of being a "recycled altar boy" for Funeral Masses. He was a member of the Rochester Elks Club, the Father Carey Council of Knights of Columbus in Lake Orion and the VFW of Grand Rapids. He was a Board Member of Heritage House Senior Citizens Housing in Lake Orion and an active Board Member and Volunteer for ONTV in Lake Orion. Larry started working for General Motors Truck & Bus in 1940 in the photographic department. He took a leave to join the Marine Corps in World War II as a Photographer, put ashore to film the devastation following the bomb at Nagasaki. Larry was an Eagle Scout from Clinton Valley Council in Waterford. He was proud of his status as the Senior Patrol Leader for Clinton Valley Patrol at the very 1st BSA National Jamboree in Arlington National Cemetery. He maintained his membership in the National Eagle Scout Association and was an active merit badge Counselor for Clinton Valley Council. Funeral Mass will be Monday, January 7th at 10:30 am at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, visitation will be Saturday from 5-8, and Sunday 2-5 & 7-9 at the Lake Orion Chapel of the Sparks-Griffin Funeral Home (248 693-8336). Scripture-Rememberance service Sunday, 7:30 p.m. Donations can be made to St. Joseph's Parish Endowment Fund or Boy Scouts of America. Memorial reflections can be sent to www.sparksgriffin.com
