CHALLIS, LILA MARIE of Pontiac passed away peacefully in her home April 17th at the age of 99. Dear sister of the late Ivan Challis; Dear cousin of Wilbur Grunwald of Huntsville, AL; Phyllis Wilson of Happy Valley OR; Mrs. Harry Olmstead of Vero Beach, FL; Second cousin of Mrs Ralph (Nancy)Estes of Geneva, NY; and Mark (Susan) Grunwald of Huntsville, AL. Dear friend of Lisa(David) France. Dear friend of Fred (Beckie) Hueter, James (Shirley) Lawrence. Lila was being taken care of these last few years by Crystal, Marie, Jessica and Angel France, Jessica Solmes, Janie Spangler, Lorraine Roteman and Darla Hartsoe. Lila was the head of the Department at the Detroit Conservatory of Music for over 50 years. She wrote and directed many concerts for her students and composed music for the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. Lila was a very caring and generous person who supported many causes over the years. She will be deeply missed by everyone that knew her. Funeral service Friday 1pm at the Pontiac Chapel of the Sparks-Griffin Funeral Home (46 Williams St.)Family will receive friends Thursday 4-6 & 7-9 pm. Interment Perry Mount Park.
