Lucy Mae Simpson

Ms. Lucy Simpson, 92, was peacefully called home; with her loved ones by her side on Friday, February 28, 2025. Lucy was born on January 21, 1933, to the late Thearse and Willie Brown in Montgomery, Alabama. She attended New Hope Missionary Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening, playing cards, puzzles, and talking on the phone to her sisters.

Ms. Simpson leaves to cherish her memory: her children. Brenda L. Simpson of Pontiac, MI; Jesse (Debora) Simpson, Jr. of Huntsville, Alabama; Cleveland (Ronda) Simpson of McKinney, Texas; Arnold Simpson of Pontiac, MI; and Ronald Simpson of  Pontiac, MI. Her sisters, Susie Taylor and Christine Benton. And her grandchildren, Kawai, Jamal, LaClavince, Aahfe, Rozaq, Clenisha, Breshay, Asharah, Shaun, Hakeem, Michaela, Khalil, Khyrah, Aja, Jalil, Jamal, Aminah, Zakiya, and Desiree.

Ms. Simpson was preceded in death by her husband, Jessie Simpson Sr.; daughters, Joann and Debra Simpson; son, Michael Simpson; and brothers, Eugene, Mittie, Abraham, and John Brown.

Lucy Mae Simpson is not a woman who can be contained by words. She was a living testament to strength, faith, and resilience - a woman who carried her heart outside of her chest for four whole days and lived to tell the story. She called herself one of God's miracles after that experience, and rightfully so. That's exactly what she was to so many of us - a miracle, a guiding light, a foundation. She was the roots to our family tree. Because of her, we have grow, flourished, and planted trees of our own. No matter where life takes us, we will always know where home is - because she made sure we'd never forget where we come from.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 6, 2025 from 3:00-7:00 p.m. at Sparks-Griffin, Pontiac. A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 7, 2025, from 12:00 - 1:00 p.m. at Sparks-Griffin Funeral home, Pontiac. Interment Perry Mount Park Cemetery.
