Malia Ann Ivey

On September 15th, 2026, Malia Ann Ivey, lovingly known as “Sugar,” went home to be with the lord. She passed peacefully, surrounded by the love and memories of those who meant so much to her.

Sugar was preceded in death by her mother, Margaret Carson; her father, Willis Ray Carson; the love of her life and partner of 38 years, Carl Kuerbitz; her sister, Linda Pionk; her brother, David Carson; as well as other close loved ones and relatives.

Sugar graduated from high school in 1983 and began her career as a factory worker. Throughout her working years, she held several different jobs, including positions in management.

She is survived in death by her brother and sisters Carl, Nick, Terry, Sherry, Larry, and Willis.

Her children are Elmer Ivey Jr., Todd Ivey and wife (Rebecca), and Dana Ivey, along with many “adopted” children. Her grandchildren are Christopher, Rachel (husband Keith), Casey (wife Ashton), Kimberlynn (husband Tyler), Sara (husband Chris), Cody, Carl James (wife Nina), Trinity, and Deacon, along with many beloved great-grandchildren.

Sugar loved spending time in her church and treasured the time she shared with her friends and family. She enjoyed making memories, doing crafts, playing cards, riding off-road vehicles, traveling “up north” for family vacations, and spending time with her beloved grand dogs.

Above all, Sugar had a way of touching the lives of the people around her. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, medical teams, coworkers and those who were blessed to know her. Her memory will live on through the countless lives she touched and the many beautiful memories filled with laughter she leaves behind.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that those who wish to honor Sugar’s memory consider contributing toward the funeral expenses. The closest family members are lovingly carrying the cost of the services, and any gift, no matter the amount, would mean so much during this difficult time.

The family will receive friends for visitation on Tuesday, September 22, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon at Sparks-Griffin Funeral Home, Pontiac Chapel. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at 12:30 p.m. at Sparks-Griffin Funeral Home.
