Martha Alice Ramey

July 28, 1932 — February 16, 2022

Martha Alice Ramey , 89, of Pontiac Michigan went to her heavenly home on Wednesday, February 16,2022. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and woman of God.
Martha was born July 28, 1932 to Walter Hopkins “Hop” Ramey and Oma Mary (Adkins) Ramey of Huntington West Virginia. Completing their family of five, she was the cherished baby sister to Hastie DeLancy & Irene “Renie” Lester.
She leaves behind her loving family who were her pride and joy. Her loving daughter and apple of her eye Lea Charlotte Floars (Greg Floars) of Pontiac Michigan, beloved grandchildren Laura Lea Botkins (Zach Botkins) of Ashland Kentucky, Rachel Smith (Jordan Smith) of Lake Orion Michigan, and Caleb Floars of Kansas City Kansas as well as her three precious great grandchildren Titus Botkins, Landry Botkins, and Olivia Botkins of Ashland Kentucky. In addition she is survived by her lifelong best friend Charlotte Crandall and many special friends and loved ones.
She is preceded in death by her parents Walter Hopkins Ramey and Oma Mary (Adkins) Ramey, sisters Hastie DeLancy (John DeLancy) and Irene Lester (Luther Lester) as well as nephew John Glendale DeLancy.
From a very young age God planted in her heart a love for and incredible talent in music. Beginning piano lessons as a young child, Martha worked hard all of her young life and went on to earn not only a Bachelors degree but a Masters degree as well in Music Education from Marshall University in Huntington West Virginia. She spent the next 38 years of her life pouring into the lives of countless young people, instilling and nurturing a love and appreciation for music. She received many honors and rewards throughout her notable career, the one she held most dear to her heart being the honor of the Washington Post’s Agnes Meyer Outstanding Teacher Award in 1993.
Martha faithfully served in church music ministries throughout her life, using the gift of music God had given her to further His kingdom. She served in the capacity of pianist and choir director for most of her adult life. In later years when dementia made many things difficult or impossible to do, she could sit down at a piano and with beautiful precision play and sing the hymns she had been playing all her life that were deeply rooted in her heart.
A celebration of Martha’s life will be held Friday, February 25, 2022 at 6:00 p.m. at First Free Will Baptist Church 1750 Baldwin Avenue Pontiac, Michigan 48340. Visitation will precede the funeral from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
