Merle A. Haanes, M.D., ; of West Bloomfield; age 87; October 9, 2009; father of Elizabeth Haanes (Cecil Chen) of Maryland and two other daughters; and grandfather of Benjamin, Katie, and Bronwyn. Merle was preceded in death by his wife Mary in 1988 and his sister Winifred Haanes Hobert. He was a graduate of the University of Michigan Medical School in 1945, served in the U.S. Naval Medical Corp from 1946 to 1948 and served his medical practice Residency in Dermatology at the University of Pennsylvania from 1949 to 1952. In 1949 he married Mary L. Turner. Merle was a longtime member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Pontiac where a Memorial Service will be held on Friday, October 16, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. with The Rev. Karen Johanns officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service.
