Nelson Garland

GARLAND, NELSON; age 74, of Lake Orion, passed away quietly in his sleep on February 22, 2010. He was born in Detroit, MI on March 10, 1935 to the late Arvel and Roxie Garland of Hardy, AR. Nelson is survived by, and the beloved husband of, Sylvia Marie (Stec) for 53 years; the loving father of Paul Garland (Ft. Lauderdale, FL), Cynthia Garland (Lake Orion, MI), Connie Boyajan and husband Bill (Alpharetta, GA) and David Garland (Oxford, MI); the adoring Papa (grandfather) of Amanda Shaw-Carpinelli and husband Chris, Michael and Jeffrey Ring, Brittany, Craig and Allison Boyajan, and his great-grandson Logan Carpinelli. Nelson retired in 1997 from a long career as a tool design engineer and supervisor in the local automotive industry, primarily with Time Engineering. He was active in the Knights of Columbus Council #4764 of Lake Orion, and was a member of Oxford Hills Country Club since 1978 and on various leagues there over the years. He loved his family and friends, always enjoyed playing cards, as well as, Sudoku in recent years. He enjoyed the outdoors including golf, boating, hunting, fishing and other such activities throughout his life. He will be sadly missed, and lovingly remembered, by his family and all who knew him. Funeral Mass February 26 at 11:00 AM at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church, 2700 Waldon Rd, Lake Orion. Family will receive friends Thursday February 25 from 2-4 & 6-8 at the Lake Orion Chapel of the Sparks-Griffin Funeral Home. Rosary Thursday 7pm. Burial immediately following the service at Square Lake Cemetery, Lake Orion. . In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be made to Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church or the Knights of Columbus Council #4764. Memories may be shared at www.sparksgriffin.com
