Niles E. Olson

Olson, Niles E.; of Lake Orion; age 75; passed away July 4, 2014. Niles is the beloved husband of Eleanor of 54 years; loving father of Lana (Rick) Seidel and Lori (Eric) Williams; special grandpa of Joey, Tommy, Sam, Ericka, John Paul and Nicole; and dear brother of Ano (Isabel), Bill (Kareen), George (Caroline), Sharron Reyes, and the late Robert. Niles was a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force and was retired from General Motors after many years of service. Mr. Olson served as Oakland County Commissioner, District 3 for 10 years. Niles was deep thinker, a poet and a dreamer. He was a man of many diverse talents and passions and had a great witty sense of humor. Through the years Niles ventured into many jobs and hobbies in the Lake Orion area. To mention a few he owned the Olson Hardware, Olson Roofing and Olson Landscaping. He also went on to own a Secretary of State's office and was a licensed Real Estate agent and appraiser. Some of his hobbies included being a certified Master Gardener from MSU, operating the raspberry farm, was a Beekeeper, and was a woodworker. Those are just some of the many things many people would remember about him, but most of all he was family man and Papa Extraordinaire. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at 11:00 am at the Gingellville Community Church. The family will receive friends on Tuesday at SPARKS-GRIFFIN FUNERAL HOME, Lake Orion from 3 to 8 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10 am until the time of service. Interment Eastlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to On Goal Ministries.
