Raymond Charles Howard was born on March 22, 1952 in Pontiac, Michigan. Raymond made his transition on January 16, 2019, as the Lord called him home. He is the son of Rosa Lena Howard-Robinson and George E. (Kathy) Howard. Family and friends gather today to reflect the significance of a life well lived.
Raymond accepted Christ at an early age and attended Lake Street Church of God, New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, Life Worship and Training Center, Pontiac Southside Seventh-day Adventist Church, and the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Raymond graduated from Pontiac Central High School in 1970. He attended Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan where he majored in Engineering. He was a Computer Operator, Child Care Worker, Handyman, Independent Delivery Agent, Entrepreneur - RCH Enterprise, Medical Assistant, Drill Sargent and honorably discharged from the United States Air Force.
While serving in the military, Raymond was awarded the Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, Non Commission Officer Professional Education Ribbon, Air Force Longevity Service Ribbon and Air Force Good Conduct Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster. Raymond received the National Defense Service Medal, attended the Air Force Non Commission Officer (NCO) Training Course, and the NCO Leadership and Supervisory Courses to enhance his ability to supervise Air Force personnel under his command while serving in the United States Air Force.
Raymond’s hobbies included fishing, water sports, golf, tennis, basketball, bowling, reading, missionary work and spending time with family and friends. In his own words, “My community service includes helping my fellow citizens, which means setting a good example and utilizing religious principles to solve problems”.
Cherishing his memory is his current wife of 16 years, Velma Howard, joined in holy matrimony on December 3, 2002. Sharing in fond memories is his son, Raymond E. Howard with former spouse of 20 years, Jacqueline Lane.
Raymond is survived by his loving brothers and sisters: George (Marie) Howard Jr., Harolyn Elaine (Frank) Burnett, Calvin (Delvern) Howard, Gary Howard, Teresa Rodges, Diane Howard, Sadie (Jerry) Burnett, LaRhonda (Donson) McCann, Antoinette (Christopher) McClenney, Kristofer (Jacquelyn) Howard, Kristin Howard, Krista Howard and preceded in death by his sister, Sandra Howard-Morgan and brothers-in-law Ricky Morgan Sr. and Larry Rodges. He will be missed by his sisters-in-law: Angela Riley, Audrey Moye’, brothers-in-law Felton Williams Jr., Andrew Williams, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at 11am at Sparks-Griffin Funeral Home, Pontiac. The family will receive friends on Monday, January 21, 2019 from 4-8pm at Sparks-Griffin Funeral Home, Pontiac.Sparks-Griffin Funeral Home (Pontiac)
