Reverend Marion E.Sherrill, "Gene"; November 22, 2008; of Auburn Hills; age 88; beloved husband of Arlene Sherrill and the late Beatrice Sherrill; loving father of Frieda Sherrill, the late Garry (Theresa) and Verna (Richard) Gumm; step-father of Sandy (Bill) Schultz; grandfather of Eric, Leslee (Rand) Robinson, Heather and Megan Gumm; step- grandfather of Bill, Aaron and Louis Schultz; and great-grandfather of Joel and Millie Robinson and many other step grandchildren. Gene was preceded in death by his Brothers R.G. and David Sherrill and his sisters Geneva Smith, Margaret Wiggins and Pauline Brown. While in the Army during WWII, Gene played baseball with Joe Dobson and Ray Trevino. After the service Gene worked for General Motors as a pipe fitter for 20 years. While in his early thirty's, God called him to the ministry, starting numerous Southern Baptist churches in Oakland County, becoming known as "Mr. Missions." Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 26, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Columbia Avenue Baptist Church with Pastor Brad Adams officiating. The family will receive friends on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Tuesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Pontiac Chapel of Sparks-Griffin Funeral Home. Interment Ottawa Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Columbia Avenue Baptist Church. Reflections may be shared at www.sparksgriffin.com.
