Rex L. Furney Jr.; of Lake Orion; age 74; August 4, 2013. Mr. Furney is survived by his four daughters, Vicki Cooley (Jerry), Cindy Woityra (Joseph), Lori Acker (Eric), Jennifer Brimm (Brian); two sons, Brian and Scott (Kym); 11 grandchildren, Stephanie Moya, Nichole Rudenga, Megan Woityra, Brandon Cooley, Erin Furney, Kayla Furney, Whitney Acker, Libby Acker, Zachary Brimm, Riley Brimm, Saylor Brimm; and two great grandchildren, Austin and Saveena Moya. Mr. Furney is also survived by his sister Barbara Sellers (Furney), many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, as well as great-grand nieces and nephews. Mr. Furney retired from GM Truck and Coach after over 38 years where he was a tool maker. Mr Furney served his country as a National Guardsman for 6 years and aided in the Anchor Bay tornado cleanup. He had been flying gliders for many years which led him to pursue his pilot's license which unfortunately was interrupted by his illness. Mr. Furney enjoyed the fellowship of his friends at CJ's for breakfast, the Nugget for dinner, and various social events with his graduating high school classmates. Mr. Furney was a kind and easygoing man that quickly put people at ease. He was loved by everyone that had the pleasure of meeting him. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 8, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at SPARKS-GRIFFIN FUNERAL HOME, Lake Orion. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 3 to 8 p.m. Interment Square Lake Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Karmanos Melanoma Cancer Research Foundation.
