Robert "Bob" Duane Dingman

Robert “Bob” Duane Dingman, 89, of Davison, Michigan passed away on November 17, 2025. He was born March 23, 1936, in Portland, Michigan to Merlin M. and Edith M. (Bixby) Dingman. Bob grew up and graduated from Durand High School in 1954. On June 8th, 1957, Bob married Shirley Ann Durling, and they were married for 68 years.

He attended General Motors Institute and graduated in 1959 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He worked for GM for 38 years before retiring in 1992. Bob was at Pontiac Motors until the plant closed and then worked on various engineering projects for the GM Tech Center.

With the help of their family, Bob and Shirley built their own house in Lake Orion starting in April, 1960, and finishing the following spring. They raised their family in Lake Orion, Michigan before moving to Davison, Michigan in 2001.

Bob was very involved with his sons and Boy Scouting. He was both a Cub Scout leader and a Boy Scout leader for many years. A highlight of his time in scouting was attending Leadership training at Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. Bob was also a Mason with Lake Orion Lodge #46, serving as their Worshipful Master in 1971.

Bob was a member of the Lake Orion United Methodist Church for over 50 years. He enjoyed mission work such as church building in Michigan, repairing homes in Louisiana after a hurricane, and youth trips to Tennessee to repair homes.

Bob and Shirley enjoyed traveling together throughout their marriage, camping and traveling in their motorhome through all 50 states, Canada, and several foreign countries. They both enjoyed wintering at their second home in Zolfo Springs, Florida.

Bob enjoyed building and woodworking. After he retired, he loved making wooden toys for organizations to give to children at Christmas.

Bob is survived by his wife Shirley Ann; his brother Morris (Joy) Dingman in Akron, Ohio; his four children, Michael (Susan) of Davison, MI, Michele (Mark) Hall of Wauchula, FL, Martin (Jennifer) of Davison, MI, and Matthew (Michelle) of Howell, MI. He is also survived by his eleven grandchildren; Jim (Andrea) Ananich, Rachel (Nick) Romund, Micaela (David) Ford, Marissa (David) Alexander, Jay, Jonathon (Shannon Fuller), Gabe, Madelyn, Emma, Brandon, Justin; and his eleven great-grandchildren; Cassie, Josh, Jennifer, Sidney, Jacob, Johnny, Cohen, Brantley, Delainey, Jameson, and Stevie, with one great-great grandson Markus.

Memorial donations can be made to the Lake Orion United Methodist Church Music Fund.

Memorial Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 6th, 2025 at the Lake Orion United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service at the Church
