Robert Calhoun; September 25, 2009; of Pontiac; age 76; beloved father of Sue Calhoun, Tim (Ronda) Calhoun and Tony (Mary) Calhoun; grandfather of nine and great grandfather of three. Bob was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Madeline Sue Calhoun, son Bobby Jr., sister Alice Shlata and brother Buddy Calhoun. Bob grew up in Guntersville, Alabama where his father owned a saw mill. Bob worked at the saw mill before enlisting in the Army on July 10, 1950. He served his basic training at Fort Knox in Kentucky. He was a member of the 2nd and 3rd Infantry Division, 64th Tank Battalion, 38th Regiment, A Company and saw combat in Korea. Bob left the Army as a Corporal and came to Pontiac. He worked for the big three, and later worked for U.S. Truck as a truck driver. Bob was a Union Steward for Teamsters Local 299. On September 14, 1984, Bob bought Bob and Elmer's Bar in Pontiac and just recently celebrated 25 years of ownership. For all of their caring and compassion, Bob's family would like to thank Avalon Hospice. On Tuesday, September 29, 2009 from 1 to 3 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. the family will receive friends form a memorial visitation at the Pontiac Chapel of Sparks-Griffin Funeral Home. Burial will take place in Guntersville; Alabama. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association. Reflections may be shared by visiting www.sparksgriffin.com.
