Sharon Jean Hake was born April 30, 1939 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Henry and Marjorie Kaschalk and passed away February 16, 2026 at 86 years old in Oxford, Michigan. Sharon was predeceased by her only sibling, Beverly (Kaschalk) Kunkel and her husband, David Lee Hake, whom she was married to for 65 years. She was the loving mother to Lee Ann (August) Kalohn, Diane Hake, William (Lisa) Hake, Barbara (Roger) Thorman, Robert Hake and Mary Kay Hake.
Sharon dedicated most of her life to the love of horses. She competed as a child, riding English style until she turned 18 and met David and became a full-time mother to six children over the next eight-years. Her love for horses never diminished, and after child-bearing days were over, she discovered her true knack – horseback riding instruction. Sharon taught at a riding school located at the state fairgrounds in Detroit, and, in 1969, when the business moved to its current location in Addison Township, the Hake family relocated there as well. All six of her children were raised riding and caring for horses.
Sharon eventually purchased the business, Rochester Hills Stables 16 years later, and ran it until she retired in her late 70’s. In addition to providing a wonderful upbringing for her children, she also provided for many of their careers within the business/horse industry. And eventually her grandchildren followed suit and began their own careers within the horse industry. And now, the love of riding has found its way to the fourth generation.
Perhaps Sharon’s biggest success was the joy and smiles she brought to the faces of thousands of kids and adults who took lessons over her 50 years of involvement. Sharon had always believed the impact that she had on so many kids lives had been her best reward and what defined her success.
