Terry Jones

Terry Jones, 67, passed away Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at his home in Metamora following an extended illness. He leaves his wife of 44 years, Linda; his daughter Heather (Stuart) Sherwood of Springboro, Ohio; his son Jason (April) Jones of Oxford; his grandson Carter Sherwood; granddaughters Rylee and Charlie Jones; and grandchildren Arielle, Cameron and Autumn Ginter; and many close friends including George Claussen and James Brasington. Terry was born and raised in Lansing, the only child of Arthur and Ruth (O’Bryan) Jones.  After graduating from Eastern High School in 1967, he was recruited to attend General Motors Institute (GMI), graduating in 1972 with a bachelor’s degree in Engineering.  He met his wife, Linda Smart, at Otsego Lake State Park and they were married in 1972 at the Aley United Methodist Church in Dayton, Ohio. After graduating from GMI, Terry began his 38 year career with General Motors.  Over the years, he established a reputation of dependability and excellence.  He went on to earn a Master’s Degree from GMI. The Jones family spent the first half of their marriage in Bath, Michigan and moved to Metamora in 1997. His children and grandchildren were his greatest source of pride.  He had a passion for woodworking, designing cards with his wife that he then helped her teach classes to make. He loved spending time with his family and friends.  He also loved his pole barn filled with his tools he collected over the years and his tractor.  He enjoyed camping, photography, activities on the water, playing tennis, serving as his son’s Scout Master, and reading.  He loved spending the past few winters in Alabama. The viewing will be held on Friday, August 11, 2017 from 4pm - 8pm at the Sparks-Griffin Funeral Home in Lake Orion, Michigan.  The funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at 1pm at Sparks-Griffin Funeral Home.
