VELMA SPARKS, age 96 of Pontiac, Michigan; made her transition into glory on March 20, 2009 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on September 2, 1912 in Roundnob, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 74 years, Aubrey (Pop Paw) Sparks, parents Dink and Minta Gray, son Billy P. Sparks, brothers Roy, Raymond and George Gray, sisters Minnie Newbern, Etta Broxton, Ruby (Margie) Sparks, granddaughter Sabra Officer and grandson Michael Sparks. Velma leaves to cherish her memories; her daughters Marva Officer of Auburn Hills, MI and Velda Norman of Pontiac, MI; brother-in-law Grady Sparks of Toledo, Ohio; 8 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. Velma will Lie in State at the Pontiac Chapel of Sparks-Griffin Funeral Home on Tuesday from 2 to 7 p.m... A celebration of Velma's life begins on Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at 11:30 a.m. at Word of Life Christian Church, 79 Elizabeth Lake Road in Pontiac, with Home going Service commencing immediately at 12 noon.
