William "Bill" Roberts

William Charles “Bill” Roberts; of Lake Orion, Michigan.  Bill was born on June 29, 1931, in southwest Detroit to Michael Delaney and Agnes (Klasges) Roberts.  He passed away peacefully at his home on August 21, 2023, at the age of 92.  Bill was preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years, Carmen (Jennings) Roberts.  Bill is survived by his two daughters, Kerry (Dave) Tieman and Carleen (Chuck) Penoza; and his five grandchildren, Amber (Brandon) Hans, Cassandra Tieman, Allyson Tieman, Madeleine Penoza, and William Charles “Charlie” Penoza IV.  He was preceded in death by his two siblings Frederick (Tena) Roberts and Helen (Joseph) Cooper.  He is also survived by his niece, Nancy (the late Kevin) Cooper Freely; and his nephew Peter (Linda) Cooper.

Bill was raised in Southwest Detroit where he attended Holy Redeemer High School.  Bill met many of his lifelong friends in Detroit, maintaining these relationships throughout his life.  Bill attended night school at the University of Detroit.  He married the love of his life, Carmen, in 1967.  Bill and Carmen began their marriage living in Geneva, Switzerland.  They moved back to the United States in 1969, settling in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan.  He worked for Chrysler Corporation for 38 years, retiring in 1991.  Even before retiring from Chrysler, Bill and his wife, Carmen, traveled throughout the world.  After retirement, they wintered in Spain, Portugal, and Florida.  They instilled the desire to travel to new places in their children and their grandchildren.  It was fun to guess where they would travel to next.  In 1994, they moved into their beautiful lakefront home in Lake Orion (that Bill designed), where they spent time entertaining and playing bridge with many wonderful friends and family.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at 11am at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Lake Orion with visitation from 10:30am until the time of service.  The family will welcome friends for visitation on Monday, August 28, 2023, from 3-5 pm at Sparks-Griffin Funeral Home, Lake Orion.
