George Carney, ; of Pontiac; passed away on Monday, November 17, 2008. He was 85 years old. Mr. Carney retired from GM after 40 years of service, including many years as President of UAW Local 596 and 5960. He was a proud Veteran of the U.S. Army and served in WWII. He enjoyed brotherhood at the Roosevelt Masonic Lodge # 510, where he was a Past Master. George was preceded in death by his son Jerry L. Carney; parents William H. and N ora East Carney; sisters Edna, Una and Amy; brothers, Roy, Wayne, William Jr., Jack, Brownie and Alfred; and dear friend John Page. Survivors include his beloved and caring wife, Evalena Carney; grandsons, Jonathan M. (Christine) Carney, George Bryan (Nickie) Carney; daughter in law Peggy Carney-Wall; beloved great grandchildren, Chaz, Breanna, Abigail, Corbin, Jerry Michael and Lillian; and many sister in laws, numerous nieces and nephews and dear friends. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 20, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Pontiac Chapel of Sparks-Griffin Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. with a Masonic Service at 7:30 p.m. Interment Christian Memorial Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Mercy Hospice.
